. . . It may have taken North Forks Cardi four days
to travel across the country from Battle Ground, Wash. (Region 6) to attend the
Finals with owner/rider Jessica Wisdom, but it only took a matter of minutes
for the charismatic Welsh Cob stallion to become the fan favorite on his way to
winning the finale class of the night, the Grand Prix Open Freestyle
Championship. "Freestyle is where he really shines - he hears that music
and he becomes a big horse. Nobody told him that he's only 14.3 hands!,"
said Wisdom. "All he has to do is go out there and be the rock star
that he knows he is. And you saw what happens! He has an ego the
size of Texas. He seemingly becomes three hands taller and says, 'watch
this." The Reserve title went to Region 4's Emily Miles of La Cygne,
Kan. (69.833%), who today found success aboard her Hanoverian gelding
Weltdorff, a horse she's had since he was a youngster and has risen up to the
Grand Prix level together. "It's always seemed that he's played the role
of bridesmaid to my other horse WakeUp, so I'm happy for him to earn
this," said Miles. "I have to admit I don't particularly like my
music, but I trusted my freestyle designer who insisted that it works for my
horse. Obviously she was right! The best moment was coming down
centerline as we did 25 one-tempi's one-handed and the crowd started
clapping. And turns out my husband was watching our ride from home on the
USEF Network! So it's been a really fun night." READ FULL STORY

Local underdogs win big at national horse competition
THE REFLECTOR - Kelly Moyer, staff reporter In the days preceding this year’s U.S. Dressage Finals, a horse riding competition that showcases the most talented horses and riders in the country at the renowned Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., the horse media world was already buzzing around Battle Ground equestrian Jessica Wisdom and her pony, North Forks Cardi. Could the Pacific Northwest rider and her tiny horse beat the tall, warmblood horses that reigned supreme in the competitive world of dressage? READ MORE.. |
DIGITALHORSE.COM - CARDI MADNESSThis pony is a hero story. When I spoke with . . |
"Cardi had never been in this type of atmosphere. Going around the outside of the arena he was a little bit up, but as soon as we headed down the centerline he was right with me." Wisdom said. The pair are not newcomers to competition, they have been competing at Grand Prix for two years now with steadily improving scores. After winning Regional Championships both in Grand Prix Open and Grand Prix Freestyle, she decided to head across the country from her home in Ridgefield, Washington to Lexington, KY for the Finals. "My student also qualified for the Finals and convinced me we should go." Wisdom explained. She also admitted that they were maybe a bit crazy to undertake such a big trip!
Althouth they might be the underdogs as they don't quite fit the picture of most successful Grand Prix mounts, its clear the Wisdom believes in her pony whom she recently became full owner of. Cardi who was breed by Carol Holcombe and bought as a youngster by Cindy Miller. Wisdom and Miller co-owned Cardi until recently when Wisdom bought Miller out. "I have been his only trainer - I broke him as a youngster and have trained him to Grand Prix. I couldn't have don't it without everyone involved in Team Cardi! Especially F.I.T.S and Purina!"
Tonight at 9:15 they compete in the Grand Prix Freestyle. When asked about her freestyle Wisdom said "It's our tried and true freestyle - only we'll do it better!". And we certainly wish them great success tonight in the big arena and big crowd!
The 2014 USDF Dressage Finals are just around the corner
Family, friends, clients and Team Cardi fans, we are GOING TO KENTUCKY!! Short version is that everything is falling into place for Cards and I to head east for the US Dressage Finals this year. We have been a team since he was three - all the way from Training level to Grand Prix. The training and fitness are both rocketing along in grand fashion and things are happening for us - as evidenced by his sweep of the Oregon Dressage Championships and USDF Regional Championships with scores to nearly 80%. I declared while at Championships, but he is currently still the HIGHEST scoring horse (err, cob) coming into the Finals for the Freestyle and the second highest for the GP. We are ready to show this country what we're made of and through the efforts of many people, we've been able to pare our expenses way down already. Please consider supporting this truly grass roots journey.

North Forks Brenin Cardi is 2013 WPCSA Welsh of the Year!
We are excited to announce that North Forks Brenin Cardi, owned by Cindy Miller and Jessica Wisdom, is WPCSA Welsh of the Year!
This is the second year that the WPCSA has offered a Welsh of the Year award. A program that carries with it a title of distinction that will last a lifetime - the Welsh of the Year Award. This exciting new program is designed to promote ownership, encourage involvement and spotlight the achievements of extraordinary Welsh breed individuals.
Candidates for the Welsh of the Year Awards are WPCSA registered animals who have made outstanding accomplishments in the current year from a broad range of disciplines such as combined driving, competitive trail riding/driving, demonstrations/clinics/parades, dressage, endurance, eventing /combined training, open breed shows (any discipline), therapeutic riding, vaulting, Welsh shows and working western events.
Recognizing the impact of this award, Dr. Ruth Wilburn, WPCSA President, states “We believe that our breed is comprised of talented, hard-working, beautiful athletes and from those, we want our members to annually recognize one such animal that has gone above and beyond in representing the value and wonder of our breed. We love our Welsh breed and we encourage others to join us in exploring all the many ways they can and do excel, as recognized by the Welsh of the Year Award.”
Jackie Verkuyl of Goldhills Welsh, and program sponsor, agrees. “Each year we watch representatives of our Welsh breed excel in a variety of ways, and we thought it fitting to recognize those extraordinary accomplishments through this interactive and meaningful award. There’s no time like the present so keep this new program in mind as you watch our Welsh breeds perform and achieve this year.”

2013 North American Stallion Testing goes on in spite of epic weather conditions
The
2013 North American Stallion Testing marks the 4th year that Jessica Wisdom has
been invited as a guest rider for the panel of judges. It will go down in the
record books as one of the largest, and most challenging, since Silver Creek
Farms began hosting and producing the event seven years ago at their top-notch
facility outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma. A collection of stallions bred in Germany,
Austria, Czechoslovakia, Canada and the United States were trained, tested and
judged by the panel.
During the testing, candidates were evaluated on a set of universal criteria including gaits, jumping, rideability and character. This process allows stallions to show their versatility without emphasizing any one style or discipline. They received marks from multiple judges during both the “training phase” and “test phase” of the event.
A major storm, rider injuries, and other challenges would not deter the team from completing their goal and awarding final marks to the twenty-one contestants. By the time the final scores were given, one of the most difficult winter storms in recent memory had taken ahold of the entire region. The Governor of Oklahoma, Mary Fallin, declared a state of emergency and traffic across many surrounding states came to a standstill.
The winner of the 70-Day Test, Canadian-bred Fabian DSF (Freestyle x Hierarch), claimed top honors with exceptional marks for rideability. The Reserve Championship went to Gallant Reflection HU (Galant du Serein x Rohdiamant).
